The Peony Series from the Imperial Exhibition - In 1917, one of Japan's famous naturalist artists, Tanigami Konan, was chosen to produce a series of beautiful peony paintings for the Teiten (Imperial Academy Art Exhibition). Because of the importance of this auspicious occasion, all of the traditional Japanese works of art selected for display represented the highest standards. In 1923, Unsodo published a lovely woodblock print set of 24 peonies based on the original paintings. These wonderful designs are in an unusual, extra-large format rarely seen with woodblock prints, with rich color, beautiful detail, and soft shading. An outstanding series.
