Sketch-tour Genre Prints - Sketch-tour books depicting travelers and scenic views became popular in Japan in the during the late Meiji era (1868 - 1912) and continued through the Taisho era (1912 - 1926). Many artists took trips around Japan, recording their journeys with paintings and drawings. Their images would typically be published in guide books or travelogues with beautiful color prints. These woodblocks are from a lovely group of designs with soft color and the look of a quick sketch or painting. An interesting genre of Japanese woodblock prints.
