The Night Scenes Series

The Night Scenes Series - Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

Shrine Gate a Miyajima - Beautiful view of the famous torii gate at Miyajima, the imposing structure seen in black silhouette against a deep blue sky. A boat makes its way across the foreground, moving through mist atop the quiet water. A full moon shines with a warm glow, reflected on the shimmering surface of the sea below. A lovely design. This is a later edition by the original publisher, with publisher's seal Nishinomiya Yosaku in left margin.
