Original Kawakami Sumio (1895 - 1972) Japanese Woodblock Print
Lamp, Clock, and Mug, 1972

Hotta Watch Company Prints - Founded in 1879 in Nagoya, the Hotta Watch Company sold imported clocks and watches before manufacturing its own products. Briefly closed during WWII, the company reopened in 1947, and to commemorate the occasion, began commissioning famous printmakers to create images with clock or time motifs. Additional commissions followed throughout the years to celebrate various anniversaries of the establishment and its presidents, with artists such as Ito Shinsui, Yoshio Kanamori, Sumio Kawakami, and Yoshitori Mori designing woodblocks for Hotta. An interesting and rare item that would make a nice addition to a modern Japanese print collection.

Artist - Kawakami Sumio (1895 - 1972)

Image Size - 8 1/4" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Excellent color and detail. Light crease at top edge. Dated 1971 on reverse but Hotta Watch Company commissioned it for a 1972 anniversary.
