Series; The Thirty-three Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage
The Thirty-three Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage - Handsome design from Hiromitsu Nakazawa's series depicting the Saigoku Pilgrimage route through western Japan, which includes 33 temples that are dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. Each temple is associated with a miracle performed by Kannon. The scenes include landscapes and interior views of temples, as well as pilgrims making their way along the route or visiting the shrines. Each is rendered in a painterly style, the soft muted colors contrasting with lively calligraphic linework. Woodblock prints of travel or tour sketches became popular in the early 20th century. Theses prints are from the first edition published by Bun'endo of Kyoto in 1925. An interesting and seldom seen modern Japanese print series.
