Unzenamakusa National Park by Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989)

Original Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989) Japanese Woodblock Print
Unzenamakusa National Park

Series; National Parks of Japan

National Parks of Japan - Great modern design from the first edition of "National Parks of Japan," a twelve print series comprising six woodblocks each by Hideo Nishiyama and Kaii Higashiyama. Published by Unsodo in 1960, these striking landscapes feature lively linework and fresh color. Skilled carvers beautifully captured the immediacy of the artist's original sketches, an effect difficult to achieve in a woodblock, giving the prints the appearance of drawings. Each woodblock is loose within a windowed folder with a text panel overleaf in Japanese as originally issued. A rarely seen series and a great choice for a collector interested in modern Japanese woodblocks.
