A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Portraits of the Generations of the Tokugawa of Clan, 1875 - Handsome group portrait of the fifteen Tokugawa Shoguns, with the first Shogun Ieyasu seated at top center wearing a black robe and court cap. He is surrounded by young and old samurai, in a variety of casual and formal dress. At lower left, the fifth Shogun Tsunayoshi, known as the "Dog Shogun," sits on a cushion stroking a white dog. At upper right, a young boy practices riding on a saddle across a wooden horse. Red draperies hang overhead, and a text block at upper right lists the rulers. Beautifully detailed with burnished patterns on the black robes, burnishing on the court caps and black edge of the cushion, and embossing on the dog's fur and the white fur chaps at upper left. A great subject for samurai enthusiasts.
