The Hour of the Rat, 1870 - Charming scene of an attendant helping a courtesan dress during the hour of the rat, which corresponds to 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. Her kimono is shaded from blue to yellow and decorated with colorful chrysanthemums and butterflies, worn over a red under robe and an obi featuring a koto. The scene above shows the busy teahouse with a porter balancing a large tray of food atop his head and a beauty carrying a tray of sweets. A handsome design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar and lining, and soft shading on the background.
Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Condition - Nice color and good detail. Small tear at edge, repaired. A few creases at edges.
