Courtesan Playing a Shamisen, 1869

Comments - Lovely image of a courtesan playing a shamisen, her kamuro or child apprentice at her side. Her kimono features a red tie-dyed fabric bordered with a purple floral print over a red under robe, tied with a yellow brocade obi. The room opens onto a view of a teahouse with paper lanterns hanging from the eaves and boats dotting the water beyond. A handsome design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1836 - 1887)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. A couple creases at edges.
