Marigase Shuya, 1867 - Lively scene of Marigase Shuya climbing onto a rooftop to escape an attacker. He clings to a bamboo ladder with one hand while using his sword to slice through the handle of a pole arm thrust at him by a guard, who tumbles backwards at lower right. Shuya's feet and hands are bloody, with bloody handprints on his wrist and leg and blood running along the blade of his weapon. A dynamic composition with wonderful detail, from a series featuring designs by both Yoshitoshi and Yoshiiku.
