Thirty-six Selected Beauties - Reflecting back on the classic beauty prints of the previous era, Toshikata's lovely "Thirty-six Beauties" series illustrates the daily activities of women from various time periods and walks of life. A geisha practicing the shamisen, a beauty in her private quarters, an entertainer crossing the river on a ferry--these charming scenes wonderfully capture life in Japan throughout the ages. Beautifully printed, many of the images feature deluxe techniques such as delicate embossing or burnishing, along with soft bokashi shading. A delightful series, great for collecting or display.

Special detail - Burnishing on the beauties' hair, the black obi, and the black lacquer shelf inside the palanquin.

Condition - Nice color and good detail. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. Light horizontal line near bottom from backing paper.
