Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
General Kanki

Comments - Expressive kabuki portrait of General Kanki from the play commonly known as "Kokusenya Kassen," a tale about the warrior Watsonia who attempts to restore the Ming Dynasty in China. He tries to enlist the assistance of his half-sister's wife, the General Kanki, but Kanki refuses to help him. Here, he glares over his shoulder with an angry frown, wearing an exotic robe trimmed with purple and blue ruffles and a cap with flaps at the sides. A colorful design with fine line work in the hair and beard.
