Celebration of the Twenty-fifth Wedding Anniversary of the Meiji Emperor and Empress, 1894

Comments - Lively scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress leaving the Imperial Palace in a royal carriage during a celebration for their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. The road is thronged with people who have come out to see the royal procession as it makes its way across the bridge over the moat and out into the streets. Banners and colorful flags create a festive atmosphere, with fireworks exploding overhead and releasing small toys in a shower of white sparks. Wonderfully detailed and vibrantly colored.
