The National Diet of Japan, 1889

Comments - Handsome design showing the Meiji Emperor and dignitaries at the Imperial Diet Building for the opening of the first National Diet, the governing body of Meiji Japan, which took place in 1890. Wearing a military uniform and a hat trimmed with white feathers, the Emperor stands in the center before the modern, Western-style stone building with glass windows. A flag waves atop a clocktower at top center., and a band plays at center right. Nice architectural detail. Includes burnishing on the black uniforms.

Condition - Nice color and detail. Backed with paper. Vertical folds, a few small repairs, creasing throughout.
