A Newly Published Set of Shadow Pictures - Kuniteru II's rarely seen 1867 series "A Newly Publisher Set of Shadow Pictures" features profile portraits of actors in silhouette in shaped insets against a shoji panel. The portraits are carefully drawn with attention to the individual features and hairstyles, with some figures drinking from cups and one applying makeup with a brush. Each print includes three actors, with a fluttering poem slip at upper right serving as the series title. A small crest in red accompanies each figure. An interesting and unusual format.
