Worth Her Weight in Gold - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Kyara Sendai hagi Date sodo" of the daimyo Yorikane, who has fallen in love with the beautiful courtesan Takao of the Miuraya. He has agreed to purchase her contract from the brothel for her weight in gold, so the beauty sits on one-half of a scale, the other half piled with gold coins and wooden boxes of money. She looks rather sadly over her shoulder at her companion, who glares back at her unhappily as he drinks sake from a red lacquer cup. A courtesan and kamuro watch the process with interest from the left. A fascinating subject with wonderful detail in the setting, and cherry blossoms framing the view outside.
