Courtesan under a Cherry Tree, 1885 - Interesting kabuki scene of a courtesan under a cherry tree defending herself against a guard. Looking over her shoulder with a solemn expression, she flings one hand up in the air as she grabs the guard by the neck, pushing him away. At right, the samurai Okabe Rokuyata holds a flowering cherry branch with a poem slip tied to it, looking up with a tight-lipped frown. His wife stands behind him at right. At lower left, a matron watches the courtesan closely. A handsome design with large colorful figures set against a bright blue background, with fine line work in the hair and burnishing on the armor and black court cap.
