Street Knight Reading a Letter, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of an otokodate or street knight reading a letter, looking up with a tightlipped frown as he holds the message between his hands. He wears a boldly patterned kimono over a red under robe, a sword at his side and a shakuhachi flute tucked at his back. The beauty at right smiles sweetly at him as she holds a tray with a small cup of sake on it. Nicely detailed with fine linework in the hair and soft shading on the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 19 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal centerfold, folds at edges, a few small repairs, wrinkling throughout.
