Immortal and Crown Prince, 1890

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a sennin or immortal preparing to beat the crown prince with a stick. The white-haired elder raises the rod above his head with an angry grimace as the prince watches him out of the corners of his eyes. At left, a man holding the striped reins of a dapple horse scowls at the immortal, throwing his hand out before him. The edge of a cave can be seen at right, with a tree framing a view of mountains in the distance beneath a softly shaded night sky. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji I, Nakamura Fukusuke IV, and Onoe Kikugoro V. Beautifully detailed with embossing on the immortal's white bear and curly hair, and a dusting of mica across the top of the sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. Slight curling at top and bottom
