Momochidori Sakigake Soga, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke III as the loyal maid Ohatsu in the play "Momochidori Sakigake Soga" at the Morita Theater in Edo. Her mistress, the junior lady-in-waiting Onoe, sends her out at night to mail a letter. She carries the black lacquer box containing the message under her arm, looking back over her shoulder with a keen expression. The curtain behind her features a colorful geometric pattern with a large crest of crossed scrolls. Nicely composed and detailed.

Condition - Nice detail. Backed with paper, horizontal and vertical folds, a few repairs and creases, light horizontal and vertical lines where backing papers meet.
