The New Yoshiwara: Niwaka Lions - Fantastic scene of beauties gathered for the lion dance at the Niwaka Festival in the New Yoshiwara. The women wear men's attire and have their hair styled in topknots, typically seen only on men. The red kimono feature lions and peonies, and each has a decorated folding fan and a lantern. The fierce lion costume can be seen behind them. A wonderful depiction of this traditional festival, beautifully colored and detailed, including embossing on the lion's white mane. The first time we've offered this design.
