Threatening a Samurai with a Sword

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of the samurai Onchi Sakon threatening the famous daimyo and general Kusunoki Masashige with his sword, raising the weapon above his head as he grimaces angrily. Masashige glares back at him, throwing his hand out in a stopping motion, a bow in his other hand. At right, Sugimoto Sakubei looks up from the message he is reading with a sober expression, a fan in his other hand. From left, the actors area Ichikawa Sadanji, Sawamura Tossho, and Ichikawa Danjuro. Nice large expressive figures, set off by a deep red background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)
