Musume Hyoban Zen'aku Kagami, 1865

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play" Musume Hyoban Zen'aku Kagami" at the Ichimura Theater in Edo. In the center, the rogue Kinezumi Okichi grimaces angrily as he looks down at the beauty at right, grabbing one end of her red tie-dyed obi. The beauty tilts her head with a sly smile, watching him out of the corners of her eyes. At left, two women exchange glances, paying no attention to the other characters. Beautifully detailed with a burnishing on the black kimono collars and a subtle burnished pattern on Okichi's black robe. From left, the actors are Bando Mitsugoro as Oden, Onoe Kikujiro as Oroku, Ichimura Kakitsu, Sawamura Tossho, and Arashi Kangoro. Nice large expressive figures.
