Series; Famous Views for the Twelve Months, 1883

Famous Views for the Twelve Months - Released in 1882, the collaborative series "Famous Views for the Twelve Months" features kabuki portraits by Kunichika and fan-shaped insets with scenes by Kyosai. Large figures of actors in character fill the foreground, set off by a deep red background. The inset fans depict scenes related to the roles played by the actors. These vibrantly colored designs are nicely detailed, and some feature deluxe publishing treatments such as burnishing, embossing, or metallic pigment. A handsome choice for a kabuki enthusiast.
