Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Evening Cool at Ryogoku Bridge, 1877

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of Takashimaya Tosuke and Otowaya Seikichi along the embankment of the Sumida River. At left, Tosuke claps two wooden blocks together, grimacing angrily at his companion, who plays a small gong. Boats can be seen on the river with passengers enjoying the fireworks display, and a warm pink glow comes from the light of the teahouses along the opposite shore. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji I and Onoe Kikugoro V. A lovely setting with soft shading on the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and good detail. A few small repairs, light creasing throughout.
