Waiting outside a Door with a Knife

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a commoner waiting outside a door, holding a large knife upright behind his back. He stares ahead with a frown, his eyes wide, seemingly staring off into space. Inside, a beauty pokes her head through the doorway, tilting her head and smiling coyly as she welcomes the visitor, unaware of the danger. She has a short sword tucked under her arm, through, as if ready to defend herself. An intriguing subject with a nicely detailed setting and bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 18 3/4"
