Scene from Oshu Adachi-ga-hara, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Otani Tomoemon V as Abe Sadato in "Oshu Adachi-ga-hara" at the Ichimura Theater. The samurai looks ahead with a surprised expression as spears are thrust at him from two directions. He wears a black robe with a beautiful burnished flower and scroll pattern over a lightly embossed white kimono and a black court cap. The background is shaded from blue to green, providing a colorful contrast to his black and white costume. An attractive design, beautifully printed.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. Vertical folds at sides. A few small repairs, light crease on face.
