Confrontation in the Countryside, 1865

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a confrontation between two men in the countryside. The two men in the center thrust their arms out at each other, each turning his head away. The samurai in the yellow and rust plaid kimono scowls angrily, his other hand resting atop the hilt of his sword. His foe looks down with a grimace, his other hand behind his back. At right, a samurai in a black coat with a black cloth tied around his head grips a gun. His coat features a beautiful burnished pattern of large flowers. Another man crouches at left, his brows furrowed. Leafy foliage fills the background beneath the night sky. Nice large figures with expressive faces.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. Backed with paper. A couple small repairs, light horizonal and vertical lines where backing papers meet, raised bump on face in center.
