Emerging from a Palanquin

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of a samurai emerging from a palanquin, sneering as he looks suspiciously out of the corners of his eyes as he holds up the side panel. His black kimono hangs open at the chest, his two swords at his side. His hair sticks up atop his head, the rest pulled back into a topknot tied with a white cord. A few raindrops fall through the deep blue night sky. A great bold composition.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 7/8"

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal and vertical folds. Small repairs, a few creases.
