Nakamura Sojuro as an Unhappy Man, 1880

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Nakamura Sojuro as an unhappy man, looking down with a frown as he holds a sword in his hand. His hair is cropped short in the latest Meiji fashion, and he wears a gray coat shadowed in black over a striped blue kimono. Nice fine linework in the hair and a dusting of mica across the top of the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/4"

Condition - Good color and detail. Backed with paper. A few light creases, vertical fold at side.
