Thirty-six Modern Restaurants - Kunichika's 1877 - 1878 series "Thirty-six Modern Restaurants" depicts beauties at popular restaurants in different locations. Women are shown serving a meal, relaxing in the garden or on a verandah, or arriving or leaving a teahouse. These colorful designs are nicely detailed with handsome interior and exterior settings showing an interest in Western perspective. An attractive Meiji era beauty series, seldom seen.

Hiraiwa Restaurant in Mukojima - Charming view of the beauty Kohana strolling through the gardens of the Hiraiwa Restaurant in Mukojima. She walks across a narrow wooden bridge on tall wooden geta sandals, happily gazing around her. At right a servant waters a small plant with a dipper and bucket, and a waitress carries a tray of food inside. An attractive image from this interesting series.
