Onoe Kikugoro as Nagoya Sanza

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro as the disgraced samurai Nagoya Sanza, who was banished by his clan after a valuable scroll in his care was stolen by the evil Fuwa Banzaemon. The pair later meet accidentally in the Yoshiwara while strolling one night. Here, Sanza looks up with an angry grimace as he recognizes his foe, wiping the blade of his sword with a roll of tissues. He wears a blue kimono with his trademark pattern of swallows flying in a rain storm, an umbrella crest appearing on his shoulder and sleeve. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. A couple creases at edges and small stains.
