Eight Dog Hero Inuyama Dosetsu and Hamaji, 1888 - Great scene from a play based on epic novel "The Biography of Nanso Satomi and the Eight Dog Heroes" (Nanso Satomi Hakkenden). These eight samurai were the mystical offspring of Fusehime, the daughter of Lord Anzai of the Satomi Clan, and a dog. Here, Inuyama Dosetsu brandishes a sword as he looks up at the night sky, pine branches framing a glowing full moon. The beauty Hamaji kneels at his feet, looking up with a sweet smile as she holds the end of a red lacquer scabbard. The warrior wears a black kimono with a striking design of a fierce dragon over his suit of armor. From left, the actors are Nakamura Fukusuke and Ichikawa Danjuro. A great atmospheric design, detailed with burnishing on the black kimono.
