Original Kokunimasa (1874 - 1944) Japanese Woodblock Print
Welcome at Fukushima, 1893

Comments - Interesting scene of the Meiji Emperor and a crowd of people welcoming a soldier on his return home. He waves his cap high above his head as he rides a horse, while the Emperor watches him at lower right, wearing a military dress uniform and a hat trimmed with white feathers. A band plays at right in front of a large tent beneath an array of flags, including what appears to be an American flag. Fireworks explode overhead, releasing small toys, parachutes, and flags. An intriguing subject, detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms and hats. The first time we've seen this design.

Artist - Kokunimasa (1874 - 1944)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. A few creases.
