Celebration of the Great Ceremony, Nihonbashi, 1889

Comments - Interesting scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress riding in a carriage at Nihonbashi during a celebration. The couple can be seen through the windows of the elegant royal carriage drawn by a team of six horses. Uniformed men walk alongside the horse, while another carriage of ladies-in-waiting follows behind. A crowd lines the street to watch the procession, with red paper lanterns and Japanese flags adding a festive air. An arch made of greenery can be seen at upper left. The first time we've seen this nicely detailed design.

Artist - Ikuhide (active 1883 - 1898)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/8" + margins as shown
