Comments - Handsome view of the 10th century poet and lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikubu on the verandah of Ishiyama Temple, enjoying the expansive view of Omi. She wears an elegantly patterned lavender outer robe over full red hakama pants, her long hair flowing over her shoulders. Below, a long bridge crosses over Lake Biwa, constructed in two sections with an island in the center, the harbor dotted with ships. Peninsulas dotted with pine trees extend out into the water, and mountains can be seen on the distant horizon. Interestingly, Hiroshige III based this image on an earlier work by Hiroshige I. An attractive design, the view framed by the temple, rocks, maple trees, and a pine in the foreground. Nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading, and embossing on the white kimono collar.
