Ichikawa Sadanji as Marubashi Chuya - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Sadanji as Marubashi Chuya, a ronin who was plotting to attack the shogun in Edo Castle, but his scheme was discovered. Here, he fights off the torite, men in charge of catching criminals, sent to capture him, raising his sword above his head as a guard thrusts an iron truncheon against his throat from behind. A dramatic scene with an expressive figure, detailed with burnishing on the black kimono.
