Kabuki Characters, 1876

Comments - Terrific Chikashige triptych showing a group of kabuki actors in character, each carefully identified with name cartouches and a banzuke or list across the top. At top center, the great warrior Takeda Shingen wears a helmet topped with a horned demon and a flowing white wig, the hair beautifully embossed. In the center of the right panel, Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the 47 ronin in the play "Kanadehon Chushingura," holds the dirk with which Lord Hangan has committed suicide. A wonderful group portrait with expressive faces and vibrant coloring, detailed with fine line work.

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 26 1/2" + margin as shown
