A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Preparing to Play the Koto - Lovely image of an elegant beauty preparing to play the koto, her two companions nearby. She wears a colorful violet outer kimono with a design of splashing waves and waterwheels over a red and orange flower and butterfly patterned robe, her hair decorated with a hairpin featuring a bird atop flowers. At right, a lacquer stand holds stacks of books and a bundle of scrolls. Beautiful detail in the elegant kimono fabrics, with embossed patterns on the white kimono collars and trim, and burnishing on the hair and the lacquer stand. A charming scene of upper-class ladies enjoying a favorite pastime.
