A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Lively Poetry Contest, 1879 - Attractive triptych depicting a group of upper-class ladies gathered in an elegant palace for a poetry writing contest. The beauties sit at low writing desks, composing verses with brushes in hand, one woman mixing ink on a small stone. A princess sits on a cushion on a platform at right, smiling as she enjoys the friendly contest. The room is decorated with a red floral carpet and a folding screen patterned with clouds and phoenixes in flight, with a vase holding colorful oversize peony blossoms and flowering cherry branches. The room looks out onto a rushing river flanked by cherry trees. A terrific subject with vibrant color and fine detail, including embossing on the white kimono at right.

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown
