Autumn, 1893 by Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Autumn, 1893

Comments - Attractive triptych of several elegant young ladies enjoying an outing to view the maple leaves in autumn. The beauty at right wears a red kimono patterned with chrysanthemums and waterfalls, her hair adorned with floral ornaments and ribbons. Her companion in the center smiles back at her as she carries a tobacco set. Behind her, a woman and a girl walk across a wooden bridge over the pond, stopping to admire the scenery. At left, a young woman prepares a place for the beauty to sit beneath a tree, placing a cushion atop a bamboo bench. Maple trees frame the view on either side, with more colorful trees dotting the surrounding hills. A charming autumn scene, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and trim and burnishing on the black kimono.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
