Mikawa, Moon over Okazaki, Ushiwakamaru and Princess Joruri, No. 13 - Lovely scene of the beautiful Princess Joruri playing the koto at her home. Outside in the garden, the young Ushiwakamaru, who later became the warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune, talks with one of her servants. The beauty fell in love with Ushiwakamaru after he serenaded her with his flute. In this illustration of their first meeting, she looks over her shoulder at the visitor with interest, a young girl behind her peering at him from around a wooden pillar. Joruri wears a beautiful kimono patterned with cherry blossoms, tied with a dragon obi, a cluster of small blue flowers in her hair. A full moon glows softly overhead in the evening sky. The inset above shows the great Sanjo Bridge in Kyoto. An attractive design, nicely detailed and shaded.
