Visiting Sensoji Temple, 1883

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress paying a visit to Sensoji Temple in spring, accompanied by their ladies-in-waiting. The royal couple stands in the center, the emperor wearing a military dress uniform and hat while an attendant shelters the empress with an umbrella. Pines and blossoming cherry trees frame the scene, with a red temple building at left, and a pagoda visible beyond the tree trunks at upper right. Nicely detailed.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 27 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. A couple creases at edges, faint stain.
