Angry Beauty Attacking, 1878

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty attacking a man, gripping an elegant black lacquer handled naginata behind her back. At right, a fellow covers his face with his hand as he crouches in fright, throwing his hand out in self-defense. The samurai at right leans forward aggressively, gripping an iron truncheon in his hand. At left, a rather disheveled-looking beauty peers over the shoulder of an older man, who regards her with an angry grimace, a blue cloth tied around his head. A blossoming cherry tree frames the red sky above a pond in the garden of a mansion, with delicate pink petals falling down over the scene. Nicely detailed with fine line work and lively color, and embossing on the yellow kimono at center.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice color and detail. A couple small repairs, a few creases at edges.
