Chikanobu's Illustrated Books - Terrific set of 3 books featuring woodblock illustrations by Chikanobu. The full color covers form a triptych when placed side by side. One book in each set has a diptych and single panel subject with blue and gray added, and all books have many black and white diptych illustrations surrounded by text. Each book also has a title page with a couple colors. These books are installments in novels that were issued in multiple parts. The covers are nicely detailed and printed, and the books have traditional stab bindings. These charming little three book sets are fun and unusual, and the first time we've seen woodblock print books by Chikanobu.
This Three Book Set - This three book set comprises three parts of Volume 3 of the novel "Torioi omatsu kaijo shin'wa" (Torioi Omatsu's New Maritime Tales) by Kubota Hikosaburo, published in 1878.

Condition - Good detail. Typical wear. Binding loose on two books. A few pages have a small stain in margin.
