Beisen (1852 - 1906)

Beisen Kubota - Beisen was born in Kyoto in 1852. He had a strong interest in the graphic arts from an early age, and in 1880 founded the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting with his friend the Japanese print artist Kono Bairei. He also studied with the great 20th century master Shunsen. His print style is a simple design approach utilizing soft colors. He is most well known for his nature subjects, genre scenes, and some figural prints. Beisen’s beautiful prints are tranquil, attractive pieces that are lovely as original 19th century prints for display or collecting.
