Series; Myriad Birds: A Kyoka Competition
Fine printing from the respected Tokyo publisher Oedo Mokuhansha - These classic designs were produced by the well known Tokyo publisher Oedo Mokuhansha amidst a resurgence of interest in ukiyo-e. Like many of these traditional businesses, the woodblock print craft was passed down through generations, and the Oedo Mokuhansha company was formed by descendents of an Edo era publisher. These are nice prints of the highest quality standards and an excellent choice if you are looking for fine old woodblock reprints.
Myriad Birds: A Kyoka Competition - Originally published in 1790 by Utamaro, "Myriad Birds" was one of three nature albums in a trilogy that included birds, shells and insects. Each print depicts various birds in their natural environments, set against softly shaded backgrounds. These lovely reprints reproduce the serene, elegant beauty of the originals, with carefully detailed feathers, fine bokashi shading, and subtle color. A nice example of Utamaro's less commonly seen subjects.
