Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo, with Oniyasha as His Guide, Travels to Various Islands and Demonstrates His Ferocity, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic depiction of Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo (Minamoto no Tametomo) and his men sailing to various islands in his ship. His retainer, Oniyasha, stands in the prow of the boat as his guide, pointing ahead forcefully. He grips an enormous club, leaning forward with an angry expression. Tametomo sits in the center holding a folding fan, surrounded by samurai in armor. The rooftop and sail both bear the paulownia crest of the Minamoto clan. White-capped waves splash against the ship, with one warrior looking out an opening in the hull at left, watching the water. A great design.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 27 7/8"

Condition - Good detail. Backed with paper. Loss at corner, repaired. A few creases and slight rubbing at edges, staining.
