Kabuki Scenes from Meiboku Sendai Hagi

Comments - Great design featuring many small scenes from the kabuki play commonly known as "Meiboku Sendai Hagi," based on the true 16th century story of efforts to overthrow the Date clan in the northern town of Sendai. The nursemaid Masaoka is protecting the young heir to the clan in the women's quarters of the palace, shown second from right in the top row. Second from right in the bottom row, the evil Nikki Danjo has changed into a giant rat to recover an incriminating scroll. The loyal retainer Otoknonsuke steps on the rat, raising his fan above his head to strike the creature. An interesting design with wonderful detail.
