Kabuki Scenes from Go Taiheiki Shiraishi Banashi

Comments - Great print featuring scenes from the play commonly known as "Go Taiheiki Shiraishi Banashi," a drama about two women who avenge their father's death. The young girl Shinobu has traveled to Edo from her country home in search of her long-lost sister, who has become the beautiful courtesan Miyagino. After arriving at the Daikokuya brothel, she meets her sister and tells her the sad news that the samurai Shiga Danshichi has killed their father, and the pair agree to seek revenge against the murderer. After secretly training in the martial arts, the women challenge Shiga to a fight, shown at lower left, where they defeat and kill him, achieving vengeance for their father. Wonderful detail in this interesting design.
